Bifold Doors FAQ

ARE BIFOLD DOORS GOOD FOR OPEN PLAN LIVING AREAS?

Bifold and sliding doors are the perfect choice for open plan living areas. As we have all spent more time at home, our houses have become multi-purpose. For instance, we now cook, entertain, work, relax, teach and play with our children at home. Furthermore, most of us have seen dining tables become the new home office, and outside spaces become social spaces. This is why installing bifolds, or sliding doors, are ideal for open plan living.
As you can see below, this full corner kitchen bifold seamlessly interacts with the garden patio, making the space bigger.
So whether the bifold doors are internal or external, they create a multi-functional room. Mostly, they allow your home to flow – whether that is the outside flowing indoors or one internal room flowing into another.
Plus, another clever trick of bifold doors is the view. How?
Well, your eye is drawn to the garden or view beyond it, so your eyes skip past the TV, play areas, workspaces or mess in between. Thus a clever trick for creating the illusion of clutter-free space in busy homes.

HOW CAN I MAKE MY BIFOLD DOORS INTO A DESIGN FEATURE?

An ideal way to make your bifold doors into a feature is to use contrasting materials and make an interior design statement with your bifolds!
Indeed, we believe that when choosing your new bifold doors or sliding doors, we must consider how they look from the outside, as well as the inside. See below; for instance, the painted dark grey timber bifold doors complement the natural brickwork on this home’s exterior. And the mix of multiple stone colours, painted wood and textures have created an organic design that styles this exterior. Another example is green-painted finishes for a green or floral garden. Alternatively, use bright white or bold colours to make a point of interest in more muted backyards.
One clever idea we’ve seen in practice is installing chic looking bifolds to disguise and makeover more hardy exteriors, such as pebbledash! Custom made wooden bifold doors Leeds

CAN I USE BIFOLDS ON PERIOD OR UNUSUAL PROPERTIES?

Our bespoke bifold doors are ideal for every property – no matter how unusual or historic. Because we design, handcraft and install each bifold specifically for your project, they are made to your exact specifications. Plus, we work closely with architects and have experience with heritage and difficult properties, so we know how to overcome every obstacle.
We’ve even seen industrial storage units transformed into super cool outdoor offices or living spaces by using bifolding doors to open up metal modular buildings, or containers, into scenic spaces with views.

CAN I GET INTERNAL BIFOLD DOORS, AND WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Yes, you can get internal bifolding doors, and one of the main benefits of internal bifolds is connecting different areas.
In our multi-purpose world, where many of us now combine work, family and entertaining from home, we need our houses to adapt to our everyday needs. So one day, you may require an open flowing space for the family to roam. The next day you may need to separate the space to give you privacy on a zoom call. And that is exactly where internal bifold doors come in. They can quickly and flawlessly both divide and open up living areas. Creating a seamless connection between your internal spaces.

Another benefit is light. Bifolding doors allow light to flow from one room to another. So your once dark room is lit up from a light-flooded room next door through glass sliding doors. No matter what your interior looks like, think about installing sliding doors inside your living space for a transformative impact!
