  • Can I install new windows and doors in my Listed property?

Yes, however, you will require listed building consent to change the look of doors and windows, even if you’re installing similar ones. Read more in our Windows for Listed Buildings Guide. David H Wright Joinery retains architects to help you make the relevant applications and offer advice as required. Please note that some services do attract professional fees.

  • What type of windows do you make or replace?

We make (and install) sash, mock sash, casement, stormproof, picture windows, transom windows, bi-fold windows, door windows, conservatory windows, roof lanterns, and many more. Because we custom manufacture all our windows in our Yorkshire workshop and complete them with A-rated ecoglass glazing, we can make any window from any timber in every style. If you are unsure of the window for you, take a look at some window styles HERE

  • Do you manufacture or install UPVC windows?

No. All our windows are crafted from long-lasting timbers, preserving the character and charm of your property while providing excellent thermal efficiency, sustainability, and durability.

  • Where are your product made?

All our products are made in-house at our workshop and spray facility in Sherburn in Elmet, Leeds, in the heart of Yorkshire. We welcome you to come and experience our craftspeople, production techniques, and manufactured results, and we offer facility tours by appointment. Please enquire and ask one of our friendly team members for information.

  • What types of products do you make?

We manufacture purpose-made windows, doors, and sunrooms. We can produce tailor-made timber sunrooms, doors, bi-folds and windows in any shape, size or specification, with any standard or specialist glazing requirements. Our window range includes: casement windows, sliding sash windows, stormproof windows, heritage-style windows, bay windows, bow windows, and mock sash windows. We also manufacture solid double-boarded internal and external doors, stable doors, bi-fold doors, and patio doors.

Sunrooms are a particular specialism of ours. We manufacture and install beautiful bespoke conservatories and orangeries, in every size and shape to your exact specifications.

  • Is your timber sustainably sourced?

Yes, we are committed to sustainability in all our processes and the materials we use. Although we work with any timber of your choice, our recommended wood is AccoyaAccoya is widely considered one of the most sustainable treated timbers. It is 100% non-toxic, biodegradable wood treated with acetic anhydride to ensure it lasts beyond 50 years. It bridges the gap between the environmental benefits of fast-growing softwoods and the performance of high-end, slow-growing hardwoods. Accoya wood is one of the few C2C Gold overall-certified building materials to achieve the Platinum certificate for material health.

  • What types of woods do you use?

We manufacture in Accoya, Sapele and Oak, depending on the project and your specification.

We do not recommend manufacturing with standard softwoods, as they are inferior, prone to rotting, swelling, and twisting, and therefore less durable, with shorter lifespans! Learn more about our materials here.

  • Why is wood a good choice for windows and doors?

Wood is a natural thermal insulator, traditional, and visually appealing. It can be painted or stained as required. We primarily manufacture external doors, including front doors, French doors, entrance doors, Bi-fold doors, and patio doors. All our doors are custom-made from Accoya timber. Please tap here to see our brochure. Visit our gallery to see recent project images, or learn more about Accoya here.

  • Will my products be guaranteed?

Yes, all our products come with our DHW Joinery 5-year manufacturing guarantee. This is in addition to the Accoya 50-year manufacturer’s guarantee and the 10-year guarantee on all our standard double-glazed glass products. Explore our guarantees here.

  • What guarantee do timber windows come with?

Everything we manufacture and install follows rigorous, careful steps to ensure the highest standards, and all our timber windows are covered by our own 5-year manufacturing guarantee, which includes paint and ironmongery. If you choose Accoya wood, your windows are further protected by the 50-year Accoya Warranty. All our standard double-glazed and slimline glass comes with a 10-year guarantee.
