Replacement UPVC Conservatory In Yorkshire On A Grade II Listed Property

Transform your UPVC conservatory into a beautiful timber replacement orangery

We helped Richard and Jacqueline redesign their outdated and inefficient UPVC conservatory in Yorkshire by completing a stunning sunroom transformation with a replacement orangery that harmoniously complements their Grade II listed property. They desired something more energy-efficient, sustainable, and long-lasting with timeless elegance while preserving their existing base and groundwork as much as possible.

The solution is a carefully designed timber framed replacement orangery, remodelled and reshaped with some modifications to their base that now serves as a genuinely beloved and useable space. In addition to sustainable Accoya wood frames, we combined high-level insulation with intelligent solar and thermal glazing for improved energy efficiency and UV protection. The room can now be used comfortably throughout the year.

Grade II Listed Property Conservatory Converted Into An Accoya Garden Room

Our client was not using his UPVC conservatory all year round, and, in addition to being mindful of how it looked, was concerned that their previous UPVC conservatory typically would not be approved on their Grade II Listed Building. Working closely with the client’s architect, Architecture:ab, we designed a new Accoya garden room.  The design, approved by the Yorkshire Dales National Park, incorporated a unique junction to the original house, reducing the height to showcase an original historic cast iron window.

Upgraded Orangery Styled With Sash Windows

Part of our client’s brief was that they wanted to increase the natural airflow during summer from all orientations of their orangery. To achieve this, we designed, manufactured and then installed this bespoke orangery with sash windows. Not only do they bring a refined grace to every orientation of this space, but the sash windows also allow the homeowner to manage as much or as little natural air in their room as they desire.

Benefits Of Transforming UPVC Conservatories To Timber Sunrooms

  • Why upgrade from UPVC to timber windows?

One key reason to upgrade UPVC to timber is that wood is naturally warmer and acts as a natural insulator in your home. In comparison, UPVC is a cold material offering less insulation, resulting in less energy efficiency and less warmth in your home. In addition, wood is a sustainable organic resource, unlike UPVC frames, which are plastic and metal, highly processed materials that are difficult to recycle.

In this project for Richard and Jacqueline, energy efficiency and reducing heat loss was a vital consideration.

  • Why replace a UPVC orangery with timber orangery?

Replacing a UPVC orangery with a timber orangery will renew your sunroom’s life for over half a decade or more and make it more energy-efficient. Especially when using woods such as Accoya wood to construct your timber orangery, which can offer up to 80-year lifespan. Also, wood showcases a flexible elegance and can be re-painted and restyled to adapt to your home and decor.

Mostly, upgrading to a timber orangery allows your space to become an eye-catching structure that is much more like an extension, a stunning space suitable for use all year round.

  • Is timber more expensive than UPVC?

Timber orangeries cost more than standard UPVC, but with good reason: Timber orangeries will last over 50 years with minimal maintenance required. For instance, Accoya Wood lasts 80 years, and all Accoya’s 50-year guarantee, peace of mind Accoya orangeries, conservatories and windows will last and last.

  • How to tell if your orangery or conservatory need upgrading?

Besides outdated style, signs that your conservatory or orangery needs an upgrade include excessive heat in summer, coldness in winter, condensation, draughts, mould, leaky roofing, cracks or gaps. Timber frames are more durable than UPVC and provide superior insulation. They also offer flexibility in the long term if you want to repaint your timber-framed sunroom to match your house’s style, should it change.
