How To Add Value To Your Home With An Orangery

While the addition of a timber orangery is likely to increase the value of your home in terms of financial gain, it also has the potential to add value in other ways. From accommodating growing families to bringing the outdoors in, have you considered how an orangery could improve your home life?

Orangeries vs conservatories

First things first. At David H Wright Joinery, we often get asked what the difference is between an orangery and a conservatory. Simply put, an orangery typically has less glazing than a conservatory and, therefore, requires more brickwork in the base, which often results in formal planning consent. ‘Grander’ in style than a conservatory, an orangery is a striking addition to the right property – particularly heritage properties – acting as a seamless gateway between the indoor and outdoor space.

Whether you plan on using your orangery as an additional living room, home office, dining room, or multi-functional space with views across your garden, you will benefit from abundant natural light.

Will A Conservatory Or An Orangery Add More Value To My House?

Due to their perceived increased-luxury feel, and more extension-like construction, orangeries add more value in general than conservatories. Well-executed conservatory extensions can deliver 5-10% improved home valuations, whereas an orangery can push up a 15% increase house value prices. The national average for orangery extensions is a 7-15% increase in your house value.

Wood Orangeries, Yorkshire

Beautifully bespoke handcrafted orangeries

The team at David H Wright Joinery has the pleasure of regularly designing, crafting and fitting orangeries to homes across Yorkshire. Our gallery provides some examples, but remember, each and every orangery is bespoke to the property in order to seamlessly match its aesthetic.

When creating your dream orangery, where required, we can look after the whole process – from the initial design to the final construction. We take into account how you use your home to create the right space, as well as carefully sourcing and matching materials to the existing structure. It’s important to us that you aren’t left with an extra room but instead a natural extension to your home and garden.

All our orangeries benefit from sustainable hardwoods or (our favourite) Accoya®, which are treated and pre-finished with Teknos microporous paint. You also have a wide range of colour choices to choose from in British Standard Colours. Like our conservatories, our orangery roofing benefits from the inclusion of aluminium powder-coated capping and roof vents, making it virtually maintenance-free.

Furnishing your orangery with flair

You’re the proud owner of an orangery. Now the fun starts – decorating your new space to suit your style and the room’s functionality. We have plenty of inspiration on our blog on how you can make the most out of your new space. We also have useful information on how to keep your orangery secure. While we want your orangery to have that impressive wow factor, security features play an important role in all our designs.

It’s time to look to a better future

Given the past few years of circumstances, many of us are spending more time at home than ever. Why not use this as an opportunity to evaluate how the space in your home could be improved? Things may be at a standstill in terms of being able to commence with any building work, but there’s certainly no harm in making plans for the future.

If you’re considering adding an orangery to your home, we are still on hand to answer questions you may have and start the process of creating a beautiful addition to your property.
