Modest in design and highly functional, timber casement windows are one of the most popular choices among our customers.
We install a lot of casement windows each year, and have been doing so for over three decades. With that in mind, here’s our expert guide to everything you need to know about casement windows.
A casement window is attached to its frame by one or more hinges and generally opens outward.
Mostly, they are hung by side hinges. Although, sometimes, they are hung to open from the top – otherwise known as awning windows.
They can also be hung from the bottom, known as hopper windows – an ideal safety option for upper floors and apartments.
Casement windows are set in a frame as a single window or pair. And as pairs, the hinges can be set on the outside.

Love or hate them, uPVC and aluminium windows provide a certain level of practicality and design for homes of a particular style and age. However, they’re not always the best materials for older properties or more design-focused dwellings, which is why we specialise in manufacturing and installing bespoke timber casement windows. And because our timber casement windows can last 50+ years, you’ll be surprised how much more affordable it makes them than UPVC.
As you can see from the image below, our casement windows have transformed and enhanced the look of this home. While still traditional in style, the property also benefits from a clean, contemporary twist.

You might be surprised at how secure timber casement windows are! Using security tape to fit the windows prevents the panes of glass from being removed, making them very secure. And, our casement-style windows are also fitted with highly-effective espagnolette locking systems.
Casement windows are excellent at protecting against wet and windy weather as they are tightly sealed when closed. On the other hand, they also allow for plenty of ventilation as they can be opened as far as the hinge will allow. Or, to let some fresh air in, the window can be left slightly ajar.
Combining casement windows with storm-proofing features is possible to protect your property against harsh weather conditions. Such features include a concealed drainage system within the glass rebates to redirect the rainwater away, energy-efficient double glazing and better sound insulation. Ideal if you are exposed to the elements in coastal or remote countryside areas.
Functional, reliable and beautifully crafted to your exact requirements – what’s not to love about our casement windows? We manufacture our casement windows based on quality, not quantity. Despite having the tools and workmanship to create and install casement windows, at no point swiftly is the quality compromised.
